Homebuyer Classes

Preparing families for owning and maintaining a home

We help families prepare for the responsibilities of owning and maintaining a home before closing on their house. Homebuyers in our program take classes on homeownership, home maintenance and financial management.

These classes are open to the public and include:

  • Introduction to Homeownership
  • Home Maintenance
  • Money Smart

At Habitat, we believe in teaching skills that are beneficial in many areas of life, not only for homebuyer families, but also for students in our community.

We are proud to collaborate with local high schools, colleges, and organizations to provide a hands-on learning environment that enables students to develop green construction skills. Students work alongside Habitat building professionals and instructors to build a house from start to finish.

Through this service-learning experience, students prepare for careers in design, engineering, and construction by learning skilled trades, establishing leadership traits, and gaining pride as they invest their skills in our community.

We currently work with two schools in Muskegon and look forward to building more partnerships:

  • Muskegon Community College
  • Muskegon High School
